3 months to $500 a month?


I got an email this week from someone who has a modest goal.  They want to be making $500 a month, but only have 3 months to achieve that goal, or its back to his day job. 

I know that many marketers would just recommend getting lots of sites up quickly, but my own strategy is very different. 

The way I see it is that if you build lots of sites quickly, you'll end up with lots of site that don't make you money. Sites that will do well in the search engines need to be quality, both on-page and off.  That is the basis for my plan.

Here is what I would do (and be warned, it takes work).

1. Aim to create only ONE site in the 3 month period, so that you can concentrate on quality.

2. Carry out extensive keyword research at Wordtracker.

3. Pick the top 20 or so keywords, and aim to build a 20 page site.

4. For each of the 20 pages, create quality, themed content (see my video on Latent Semantic Indexing later in this newsletter).  You can add Adsense, or pre-sell an affiliate product.

5. While you are creating these site pages (maybe one a day) write additional articles and submit them to as many Article directories as you can find.  I would recommend another 2 articles per day being submitted to article directories.  Each article resource box should target a different keyword phrase, and point to one of the main site pages (not just at the homepage).

I highly recommend you use some sort of automation tool here as time is short.  A good, cheap option is this one:

Automating Article submissions with software means that instead of hours, it takes minutes, leaving more time for you to concentrate on other areas needing your attention.

6. While you continue working on the above, building inbound links, and creating quality content for your site, you should be submitting your site to as many Article directories as you can find.  Aim to submit it to a minimum of one directory a day, preferably two.
Directories often take some time to list your site, so start this as soon as your have a homepage up.  Again, you can speed up directory submissions using software, and that has the added bonus of showing you where the directories are, and even filling in the submission forms.  Software will keep track of what is submitted where, so you don't have to.  Again, this will speed up your work,
and you will save hours or days over the 3 month period.

Once the first month is over, you should have a 20 pages site that also has:

* been submitted to 30 - 60 directories.
* 60 articles submitted to lots of article directories, with keyword rich links pointing to all 20 of your website pages.

I would recommend that you continue to submit at least 2 articles a day for the remaining 2 months, plus submitting to at least 2 directories a day for that period of time.

As month 2 starts, go through your keywords again, and build themed lists of phrases that would make a good webpage.  Write 2 pages a week, and add them to your site for the next 2 months.  With the articles you are submitting, make sure these new pages get links back in the resource boxes.

By the end of the 3 months, you should have a website that has:

A.) 36 pages of quality content.
B.) Been submitted to 90 - 180 directories
C.)180 articles submitted to lots of websites, with resource boxes pointing to various pages on your site, using a variety of keyword rich text.
D.) Significant traffic to your site from article referrals, and natural search results.

IF your site is quality, and you chose your niche well, this should be bringing you in at least $500 per month in income.  Yes, it is an intense plan, but then making money on the internet is not as easy as some would have you believe.
